And before it does, it often sends its energy, its resources, its nutrients to other trees in the forest. Its wood, bark and body become an even more vibrant home for beneficial life forms.
It gives even in its (perceived) death.
As so does our dear Sister Ancestor Assata Shakur.
She transitioned last week.
She loved us. For real. And that love lives.
You may have heard many things about Assata. That’s she a cop-killer or an enemy of the state. Downright lies because a lie don’t care which supremacist tells it.
Instead of being swept away by the inflammatory, pause, scroll down, and be anchored by the truth: her visions of love and collective liberation for us all.
She loved us to life.
Sister Ancestor Assata, we thank you. And we speak your name.
At our next Town Hall, we will be raffling a free copy of Assata’s incredible autobiography. It will truly move you (if it hasn’t already).
Join us, Tuesday, September 14 @ 7pm ET to connect and help shape DBW’s future.
Reply “Rollin” to RSVP.
As our dear Sister Ancestor Assata would say:
“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
