Since a child, I quietly grieved — convinced I just wasn’t “that kind of girl.”
Friendship, to me, has always meant someone who can hold my heart gently in their hands.
A tall order, but possible. Best friendship though? That felt impossible.
Until I met Dear Black Woman Brandi “BK” Keeler.
My best friend.
What started as two Black women on the journey became a living example of what Dear Black Women is about — healing through chosen sisterhood.

We met July 15, 2017 @ DBW Affirmation Circle 7 in Detroit.
And she’s been riding with Dear Black Women and me ever since.
From Brandi’s first Circle in 2017... to Brandi’s first DBW party in 2018…

The pain of my past decade could have killed me. No lie.
But, I’m here to testify that I’m not only still standing, I’m also still daring to dream in large part because I have my best fren fanning the flame of my faith…
And holding my heart gently in her hands.
And she’s done that for so many DBWs — from Brooklyn to Detroit — as DBW’s first ever trained Circle facilitator.
