"I hope you come to understand that you can be a work in progress & still the badass..."

Written by Dear Black Woman Dionne

Dear Me,

Hey girl. I know that you think things like this can be mad corny and there will always a part of you that will, but if it can work for some then why not you?

I hope you come to understand that you can be a work in progress and still the badass you know in your heart. I mean how can you not be?  The trauma of last year would be something you never felt. And you did run and hide. You drank too much, ate too much, spending money you didn’t have. And sometimes you still do.

But still, you got up every day and faced the day and fought.

And you got better.

You drank too much, ate too much, spending money you didn’t have. And sometimes you still do. But still, you got up every day and faced the day and fought.

And you got better.

To be better with your actions and mind.

You got through it. You woke up earlier. You ran faster and spoke up. You pray more. And slowly you started to see the version that you always knew you can be.

I don’t think I can write a long letter to myself. It would seem too final.

I do think that this excerpt of my feelings at this moment is more precious. Because it means I’m breathing, here, and present and for that, I’m blessed. I’m so happy that I get to say hello to today and pray for better ones.

And that I’m here to love, and learn and stay excited for whatever may come. I know it’s gonna be dope.

Learning to love you,

Dionne
