"You need to look at me and to know that you are me and that we are fine the way we are."

You do not have to not look at me and evaluate who I should be. You need to look at me and to know that you are me and that we are fine the way we are.

Hi I’m your reflection...

And am here to tell you what I see in you instead of what you see in me... I want you to know that every day you have gone to the bathroom, your room, relatives houses and there was a mirror. Honey you did not once look at me... you did not face up to the fact of who you are. Your eyes did not pierce me through the material you call glass, yet I am still there. The last time you looked in the mirror you were not satisfied with me and you dared not look twice because you were afraid of me. Afraid that I would be too much for you, that my acne was not appealing to you. Yet when you’re a teen, what else are you supposed to expect? When the deep pigment of your skin got darker, your eyes squinted harder to try and lighten me. Before the shower, you look at me in disgust and try to wash away the figure of a goddess whom imperfections only became more perfect.

I know you do not know why you do this, but I’m here to tell you that you do not have to. Do you hear me... you do not have to not look at me and evaluate who I should be. You need to look at me and to know that you are me and that we are fine the way we are. Baby if I could step out the mirror and put my hand to your face and bring your eyes to mine so that you could see what you are missing out on I would, and to take advantage of the sight that you’re missing out on. Yet everyone else is getting their fill on... only you can do this.

Look at me, talk to me, and tell me that you are worth every glance. You have so much love for everyone else but yourself. You can look into anyone’s eyes and love them; now look through this mirror and say that you love me too.

Love, Your Reflection
