Affirmation Letter of the Week: "I'm here to tell you how beautiful you are."
Written & Read by Dear Black Woman Christiana, Michigan
I’m here to tell you about how beautiful you are.
I always knew you were beautiful. I mean, look at you. Your skin that glows and those lines that grace the corners of your mouth when you smile remind me of how happy you make me. Your hair...I still am in awe of how many different ways you wear it. You are magic. But damn...I never realized how authentically beautiful you were until I saw your mother in your eyes. Her strength. Her tough love. Her gentle love. Her spirit. It lies within you hun. And that shit is powerful. And that’s just your external beauty. Don’t get me started on your internal beauty that radiates through your pores. I know you’re still trying to get right on your spiritual and/or religious paths to be your best self. I get it, trust me. It seems like sometimes it’s a never-ending battle. Just know I see you boo.
I’m also here to tell you how wondrous you are.
How is it that you’re able to inspire so many to be their best? How is it that you know just what to say when I’m feeling down? How is it that you are full of optimism and your presence alone makes me want to be alive? Your care free spirit makes me feel free. Whenever I’m with you, I never want to leave. I’m so thankful that I’ve been able to spend time with you, to learn more about you, and to witness all of your glory. You are a miracle.
Lastly, I just want to tell you how tenacious you are.
Yeah, I know, that’s deep, huh? Persisting in existence and not easily dispelled is you. How do you do it? I admire you.
You inspire me.
I know you don’t have all the answers. I just appreciate that you want to keep learning and growing.
Our journey together is far from over, but just know that as long as I have you by my side, with your insights, your sense of humor, your quirky sense of style, your good days, and even your bad, you’ll always have me as your number 1 fan rooting for you.
I love you.
